What is the process of a detailing?

Detailings, admittedly, do take a long time. Though mobile detailing is incredibly convenient, the process is a thorough one, and many wonder what the time is spent doing. In this blog, we will cover what Ollie, the owner of Shucked and Shined Car Cleaning, does for each detailing.

First we get to the job and unpack all of our supplies. There is a lot of tools and solutions to unpack, so this takes a while. Next, we open up the cars interior and take 'before' photos to advertise and show our work. After that, we connect a battery maintainer to the car. We leave doors open for much of the job and do not want our client's battery to die. We remove all items from the vehicle, including trash. Then we do a quick vacuum to remove large collections of sand, food, or dirt so it doesn't tracker further.

After prepping the car, we begin detailing. We scrub all doors down, hitting every nook and cranny. We also use a steam cleaner to sanitize the vehicle and remove stains in leather and plastic without chemicals. Then we move on to the same process for the front dash, steering wheel, and center dock. After this, we detail the leather, using advanced cleaners and products that restore a shine without making the leather greasy. Finally we do a full vacuum, using drill brushes, air compressors, and brushes to remove all the dirt and sand from the carpets. If there is lots of pet fur, we also use specialized brushes to remove it all. We will finish will floor mats, which we pressure wash, steam, extraction vacuum, and scrub before shining. We clean the glass on the interior, and scrub down and pressure wash the door jambs. After doing touch ups on the interior, we move on to the exterior.

We start on the exterior with the tires. This is because tires have the most dirt on them of the cars exterior, so detailing them first prevents the mess from spreading. For tires, we use a high pH product and scrub down every inch of the tires inside and outside, as well as the rims. We will move on to a pre-rinse, using a strong soap to break down dirt without contact. After pressure washing it off to prevent scratches, we use a foam cannon on the exterior and scrub it down. We wash our scrub mits throughout the cleaning and switch to a new one for each half of the car to prevent scratches. Finally, we dry it and add polishes, protectants, and shines to plastics, rubbers, and paint.

We will leave a little gift bag for the client and pack up and leave! That is the process for Ollie Lloyd of Shucked and Shined Mobile Car Detailing in Duxbury, MA.
